Welcome back!! My name is Tara, and I am 3rd generation operator of the Whistlin’ Pine Ranch. We are located at the South end of Alta Lake (just a mile past the State Park). My grandparents, Jean and Adolph Varrelman, opened the campground and dude ranch in 1946. My father, Brian Varrelman, took over the campground and dude ranch operations in 1980, adding Sawtooth Outfitters, a commercial Outfitting and Guide service for hunting, fishing, and vacationing in the Pasayten and Sawtooth Wilderness areas. Covid put a little hiccup in operations for a couple of years, but we are back and excited to offer camping and equine experiences at Alta Lake once again, where generations have made memories that last a lifetime. Alta Lake spans across 220 acres and is known to Anglers near and far. The area also provides expansive room for the sunseekers whether it’s via paddle boards, kayaks, jet skis, and water skiing. An 18-hole golf course resides at the North end of the lake, and white-water rafting is just a few miles down the hill on the Methow River. Horse camping is a new opportunity available at WPR, offering primitive amenities and exploration of the Alta Coulee. Easy drives to Winthrop heading North 45 miles and Lake Chelan to the South 25 miles, both abundant with food, drink, and activities throughout the year.
We’re open from April 1st - October.
